Status report FINAL --- Wed, Jun 9th, 2004by Rakkis <rakkis at rakkis.net>
If it's unclear at this point to anyone of those 2 visitors who actually followed this project, AE is no more. It's trashcan material now. This site will probably stay online as long as SF keeps it (forever?), and you are free to do anything you want with the code.

Additionally I'd like to announce that the "real" AE Engine is from now on the AE Rendering Engine located at http://aeengine.game-host.org/. These guys asked me if it was ok for them to use the name as they had already been using it for sometime, and sure, the dead won't care ;). So, in other words..

This is not the AE Engine you are looking for, the real AE 3D Graphics Engine is located at http://aeengine.game-host.org/.

Status report pt. II --- Wed, April 9th, 2003 by Rakkis <rakkis at rakkis.net>
I've updated the website theme to appreciate the nearing new release. Parts of the site are still unworking (ie. docs except for pubapi ref, nightly cvs snapshot, ...), but those will be fixed when the next release comes out. Hopefully 0.10 will be out in a week or so. Meanwhile, take a look at the API docs for some new additions.

Hello. Just wanted to say a word about the low CVS activity. Lately I've been hacking on a whole new rendering API that will abstract both OpenGL and DirectX. This will be a major improvement to the engine and also it will give a lot more freedom both to the AE API user and the engine core programmer. Naturally this also means that windows users will now be able to get better performance by using DirectX for rendering.

This addition means a major restructuration to the system, so I won't be able to CVS commit until everything is working with the new system. Stay tuned!

AE Engine 0.1 has been released. Notable changes in this release include:
  • Added new memory manager contributed by swente <ssuebert at web.de>.
  • New in-engine logging system.
  • Basic frustum-culling (this is still work to be done).
  • Few API methods have been added and changed since 0.0.5. Please examine the ChangeLog for a list.
  • Fixed numerous memory leaks and bugs.
I've also changed the package name from 'ae' to 'aeengine' so don't be confused by that.

Get it from the download page and don't forget to see the ChangeLog aswell.

I updated the API docs to match the current cvs code. 0.1 should be real close now!

0.0.5 is out. This release adds a bunch of bug fixes, configuration enhancements, and support for hardware multitexturing. Check out the ChangeLog for a full list of changes and grab the latest sources from the download page.

Also, in addition to the API docs please check out the apps/ directory for example code on how to use the AE API. There's no user manual yet, I'm working on it. The app(s) should give you a good starting place though.
